We use enveloped alphaviruses and flaviviruses as highly developed and medically important systems to study virus-membrane fusion and virus assembly at the molecular level. Recent work includes studies of the biogenesis of the dengue virus membrane fusion protein (Zheng, Nature Communications, 2014, 5: 3877), live cell imaging studies of alphavirus budding (cover article, Martinez, J. Virol. 2014, 88: 6922), and the identification of host factors involved in alphavirus infection (Ooi, PLoS Pathogens 2013, 9 (12): e1003835).
