The Department of physics of the University of Stellenbosch in collaboration with The National Laser Centre of the CSIR in South Africa, seeks to appoint an outstanding and experienced post-doctoral researcher in the field of trapped ion physics. Projects include quantum feedback control and state estimation using POVM measurement, and quantum simulation of non-equilibrium systems. Research will be conducted at the University of Stellenbosch campus in Stellenbosch, South Africa.
Preferred candidates should have an excellent publication track record from an experimental ultra-cold atom/ion physics or related atomic physics group. Recommended background for the candidate might include standard theoretical and experimental tools of ultra-cold physics such as atomic physics, laser cooling, laser physics and engineering, classical optics, quantum optics, theory of open quantum systems, numerical modelling of quantum systems, RF engineering techniques, digital electronics, FPGA automation and control, ultra-high vacuum techniques, and CAD design.
We seek an individual capable of providing significant technical and intellectual leadership to student members of the group. Internationally competitive remuneration available. The target start date is 1 February 2015.
