Position: Postdoctoral Fellow

Location: The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, TX

The department of Cancer Systems Imaging (CSI) is One of the largest new programs at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center within the Division of Diagnostic Imaging. The goal of this department and its research program is to develop new methodologies to visualize the cellular, biochemical, and genetic processes that contribute to the development and progression of cancer and cancer-related morbidity, and to translate these discoveries into the clinic.

Dr. Schellingerhout’s group is operating at the translation interface between the laboratory and the clinic. In the laboratory his group is working On molecular agents to allow the visualization of nerves by imaging, and has applied this technology to Chemotherapy Induced Neuropathy (CIN), radiation induced myelopathy and in the field of surgical planning. In the clinic, his group is running a number of innovative clinical trials, all aimed at developing imaging technology and improving the imaging care that can be offered to cancer patients. The activities in the group span the full spectrum from synthetic chemistry to image analysis On patient data. In addition to his laboratory in Cancer Systems Imaging, Dr. Schellingerhout’s group has access to state of the art small animal imaging instrumentation including an IVIS Lumina Optical Scanner, Oxford Hypersense, Bruker 4.7 and 7T MRI, and a Bruker Albira PET/SPECT/CT.

Postdoctoral Position: There is an immediate opening for a postdoctoral fellow to help us to further develop and apply new molecular imaging agents and translate these to clinical applications. The fellow would work directly under Dr. Schellingerhout, Associate Professor in Diagnostic Radiology and Cancer Systems Imaging and would utilize synthetic chemistry, analytical chemistry, biochemistry, and molecular biology to develop new tools to characterize and manipulate biological systems. The ideal candidate would have a Ph.D. in biology, chemistry, biochemistry, or biophysics from an accredited institution of higher learning. The ideal candidate would have at least some experience in biochemistry and molecular biology with a solid background in imaging and/or behavioral testing in small animals. A background or interest in radiochemistry would be a significant advantage. Experience in cell culture animal models of cancer, and/or molecular imaging would also be a major advantage for this multidisciplinary position.
